Description

Reader’s Theater is a unique form of theater performance. This style of theater requires actors to rely solely on vocal acting, gestures, and physicality to portray their characters and story. There are no props or sets for Reader’s Theater!

Students in this class will explore this style of acting utilizing a myriad of different genres of stories including children’s literature, prose, poetry, and more. Students must learn to portray different characters and settings using their vocal tone and physical gestures, which can be more challenging than it sounds!

Come explore this unique style of theater!

Teacher:

Jordan Higby

Jordan Higby is 26 years old and has been a teaching artist at CYT Tri-Valley since 2016. Jordan’s passion for the arts began at age 6 when she began dancing ballet at Livermore School of Dance. Now, almost 20 years later, ballet remains an integral part of who she is, so much so that she is now a ballet teacher on staff at Livermore School of Dance herself! She also enjoys dancing and teaching lyrical, jazz, musical theater, and tap dance! Aside from dance, Jordan is passionate about creative writing. Her love for creative writing began at age 15 during her high school creative writing class. She firmly believes that we all have stories to tell, and we all possess the ability to tell those stories! Jordan graduated from California Baptist University (CBU) in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. She also holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication from CBU as of 2024. Her end goal is working in Social Services in the division of Child Welfare. No matter where her professional life takes her, she hopes to always have the time to teach and guide the next generation of performers!
