Description

Do you like to tell stories? Do you have ideas that you don’t know how to put down on paper? Do you want to become an even better storyteller? Then this class is for you! This class will consist of the fundamental skills needed to be a successful writer. We will learn about proper sentence structure, how to identify and fill plot holes, how to structure a story, and more! We will work individually and in groups. Students will be assigned small groups to work in and write their very own skit to perform at Showcase at the end of the session!

Come broaden your horizons and get a taste of what it’s like to be the author of your own stories!

*Class students who are cast in 'Goosebumps the Musical' or 'Sound of Music' are expected to attend their CYT class weekly.  More than one class absence may affect the student's casting/participation in the show; a scene, a dance, a role, or the show.

Teacher:

Jordan Higby

Jordan Higby is 26 years old and has been a teaching artist at CYT Tri-Valley since 2016. Jordan’s passion for the arts began at age 6 when she began dancing ballet at Livermore School of Dance. Now, almost 20 years later, ballet remains an integral part of who she is, so much so that she is now a ballet teacher on staff at Livermore School of Dance herself! She also enjoys dancing and teaching lyrical, jazz, musical theater, and tap dance! Aside from dance, Jordan is passionate about creative writing. Her love for creative writing began at age 15 during her high school creative writing class. She firmly believes that we all have stories to tell, and we all possess the ability to tell those stories! Jordan graduated from California Baptist University (CBU) in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. She also holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication from CBU as of 2024. Her end goal is working in Social Services in the division of Child Welfare. No matter where her professional life takes her, she hopes to always have the time to teach and guide the next generation of performers!
